The Oil Projects Company announced on Wednesday that it has completed its technical and operational preparations to begin the Gas Transportation Pipeline (GMP) project in the Artawi oil field in Basra Governorate, indicating that implementation work will commence during the current month of August.
The director of the Southern Projects Authority at the company, Abdul Hakim Qadouri, said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that a joint meeting was held with the French company Total Energy and the Chinese company CPP, in the presence of representatives of Basra Gas Company, to discuss the final requirements and mechanisms for starting the project, in addition to the technical and executive aspects related to the pipeline routes and supporting facilities.
He explained that the project includes laying pipelines with diameters of 10, 12 and 24 inches to transport sweet gas, and establishing launching and receiving stations, as well as laying a 20-inch pipeline to transport sour gas within Block WQ2 in the West Qurna/2 field.
He added that the project comes within the efforts of the Ministry of Oil to develop the system for investing in associated gas and processing the quantities produced from oil fields, which contributes to reducing gas flaring and maximizing the benefit from gas wealth.
He pointed out that the project will enhance the infrastructure for transporting and processing gas and raise the efficiency of its investment, as well as support plans to develop oil and gas fields and achieve greater economic value from the resources produced.
In another statement, the Oil Projects Company confirmed that the meeting addressed the preparation phases and mechanisms for commencing work, as well as the technical and executive aspects related to pipeline routes and supporting facilities.
She concluded by saying that the project will enhance the infrastructure for transporting and processing gas and raise the efficiency of its investment. It also represents an important step for the Oil Projects Company in implementing specialized projects in cooperation with global energy companies, which supports its expertise and executive capabilities and opens the way for its participation in future projects to develop oil and gas fields.
