Car sales in Iraq recorded a significant decline of 28.6% during the first half of 2026, registering 59,264 cars, compared to the same period last year, according to a report by Focus2move, a website specializing in global car market data.
According to the report seen by Shafaq News Agency, Kia topped the market with a 28% share despite a 27.8% decrease in sales, followed by Toyota with a 22% share and a 24% decrease, and then Nissan in third place with a 13.3% decrease.
MG came in fourth with a share of 8.9%, despite its sales declining by 31.6%, while Jetour advanced to fifth place with a share of 8.4% after its sales increased by 29.2%, making it, along with Great Wall, one of the few brands that achieved growth during this period.
Hyundai recorded the biggest decline among the major brands with a drop of 69.7%, while Great Wall’s sales rose by 6.9%.
The report indicated that the electric car market in Iraq also witnessed a sharp decline, as its sales decreased by 72% during the first half of 2026, reaching a share of only about 1% of the total market, with BYD leading this sector with a share of 48.3%, followed by Toyota with a share of 43.4%.
It is worth noting that the Iraqi car market had recorded strong growth between 2021 and 2024, with sales reaching 158,076 cars in 2024, before entering a wave of decline during the current year.
