Plans to increase production to 300 million cubic feet… Iraqi oil seeks optimal investment in the Ajil gas field

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Extraction Affairs, Taseer Azizi, affirmed on Tuesday the importance of supporting optimal investment plans for gas produced from the Ajil field, within its programs aimed at developing oil fields, increasing crude oil production, maximizing associated gas investment, and supplying the energy and industry sectors with available quantities.
This came during a technical meeting chaired by Aziz, and attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Gas Affairs, Izzat Saber Ismail, the Director General of the North Gas Company, the Director General of the Department of Studies, Planning and Follow-up, along with a number of officials and senior staff in the North Oil Company and the departments of the Ministry’s center.
The Undersecretary for Extraction Affairs said during the meeting that the development of the Ajil field is an important part of these plans, stressing the need for oil production increase programs to be integrated with associated gas investment projects, in order to maximize the benefit from hydrocarbon resources and reduce gas waste and flaring.
He added that the ministry attaches great importance to developing the Kirkuk, Salah al-Din, Nineveh, Diyala and Anbar fields, and raising their production capacities, within its development plans aimed at increasing and sustaining crude oil production, in parallel with the optimal investment of associated gas and converting it into productive energy that contributes to supporting the national economy.
Azizi considered the development of the Ajil field to be an important part of these plans, stressing the need for oil production increase programs to be integrated with associated gas investment projects, in order to maximize the benefit from hydrocarbon resources.
For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Gas Affairs, Izzat Saber Ismail, stressed the importance of investing the quantities of gas produced from the Ajil field and adding them to the national production system, as they represent an important source for enhancing the equipment of power generation stations and supporting industrial sectors.
He pointed out that the development plans for the Ajil field expect gas production to reach about 300 million standard cubic feet per day, which constitutes an important addition to the national gas system, as well as the possibility of using it in the production of liquid gas and condensates.
The meeting discussed the technical options for processing and absorbing the expected quantities of gas through the existing facilities of North Gas Company, according to their absorption capacities, taking into account the plans to qualify and develop the facilities within the contract concluded with BP.
The Undersecretary for Extraction Affairs directed the relevant authorities to complete a comprehensive technical study to determine the capabilities of the existing facilities to process the produced gas, and to reach a clear vision regarding the need to establish new facilities in the Ajil field, in order to ensure optimal utilization of the gas, enhance energy supplies, and support the Ministry’s plans to reduce gas flaring and maximize its investment.
