The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced on Monday the closure of 71 fake headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces, stressing that any drone flying without approvals will be treated as a terrorist, along with those who launch it, regardless of their affiliations.
The head of the Ministry’s Department of Relations and Media, Major General Miqdad Miri, said during a press conference held by the National Permanent Committee for Regulating and Restricting Weapons to the State, which was attended by Shafaq News Agency, that “the committee currently has a database of 6 million weapons throughout the country, and there was some lack of trust and weak turnout for the free registration of weapons, but the situation has changed now and the turnout has become large.”
Miri explained that the deadline for registering weapons will end on December 31, 2026, and any unregistered weapon holder will be treated as “outlaws” after that date.
He added that the ministry established 845 offices for registering weapons in all governorates, and granted weapons and possession licenses to more than 160,000 people, seized and confiscated 143,000 weapons, uncovered the theft of 2,668 weapons, in addition to registering more than half a million weapons for citizens.
