The Ministry of Water Resources announced on Sunday the signing of a cooperation agreement with a Turkish company aimed at developing smart water resources management and promoting digital transformation.
The ministry said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that the Minister of Water Resources, Muthanna al-Tamimi, signed a cooperation agreement with the Turkish company “Kolay Soft”, which aims to establish a joint framework in the field of smart management of water resources, in order to contribute to the optimal use of water and the development of digital transformation projects.
Following the signing, Al-Tamimi stressed the importance of the agreement in light of the climate challenges facing Iraq and the accompanying increase in water consumption rates, noting that the agreement does not include any financial obligations or burdens on the ministry.
The memorandum of cooperation includes benefiting from the Turkish company’s expertise in developing an integrated system for monitoring and measuring surface and groundwater, collecting and managing data, in addition to preparing monitoring and analysis programs for points of use and consumption.
It also includes cooperation in adopting remote meter reading devices and sensing technologies, as well as preparing training programs for the ministry’s staff and developing digital transformation systems in accordance with national priorities.
According to the statement, the agreement stipulates the development of a Geographic Information System (GIS) to identify the locations of water sources, facilities, and points of use, and to link their data to digital maps, thereby enhancing the Ministry’s ability to monitor and manage water resources based on data and modern technologies.
