An informed parliamentary source revealed on Saturday that political disagreements are hindering the completion of Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi’s cabinet, pointing to attempts to reintroduce candidates who previously failed to secure parliamentary approval.
The source told Al-Maalomah that “the current dispute centers on the insistence of some political forces on holding a revote in parliament on the candidates for the vacant ministerial posts who previously failed to obtain an absolute majority,” emphasizing that “this insistence violates the internal regulations of the Council of Representatives.” The source added that “reintroducing names that did not achieve the required quorum and vote contradicts the mechanisms of legislative work,” explaining that “the Federal Supreme Court is the legally competent authority to decide whether or not these candidates can be reintroduced, should it be proven that there was a flaw or inaccuracy in the vote counting process during the previous session.”
The source indicated that “the disagreement over the mechanism for a revote is one of the most prominent reasons for the delay in resolving the issue of the vacant ministries and completing the government cabinet.”
