The leader in the National Wisdom Movement, Maysar Al-Shammari, confirmed today, Sunday, that Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi is leading a diplomatic move aimed at revitalizing the role of mediators in efforts to bring the views of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America closer together, within the framework of efforts to contain regional tensions and prevent the expansion of the conflict.
Al-Shammari told Al-Maalomah that “Iraq has a pivotal and influential role in this matter, due to its strategic geographical location, in addition to the nature of its political and diplomatic relations with both Tehran and Washington, which qualifies it to play the role of mediator and bring the two sides closer together.”
He added that “during his visit to the United States, the Prime Minister discussed ways to calm the situation in the region, and the possibility of pushing towards a comprehensive and final agreement that puts an end to the war and escalating tensions, in a way that contributes to consolidating security and stability at the regional level.”
Al-Shammari pointed out that “the American administration entrusted Al-Zaidi with the task of stimulating the efforts of mediators and encouraging diplomatic paths, with the aim of reaching understandings that could end the state of confrontation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and open the door to political solutions that reduce the chances of military escalation.”
He explained that “the Prime Minister’s visit to Tehran, which came after his visit to Washington, also carried important messages from the American side, including efforts to persuade the Islamic Republic to show greater flexibility on some contentious issues, thus paving the way for the resumption of dialogue and reaching common understandings.”
He noted that “Iraq continues its political and diplomatic efforts with various regional and international parties, stemming from its keenness to de-escalate tensions and spare the region further crises,” emphasizing that “Baghdad is banking on political solutions and dialogue as the best way to achieve stability and end the current state of tension.”
