A source in the Popular Mobilization Forces revealed on Sunday that strict directives were issued by the Nineveh Operations Command of the Popular Mobilization Forces to completely evacuate its headquarters and formations in the province, in anticipation of any possible American attacks or airstrikes.
The source explained to Shafaq News Agency that the directives included informing sensitive sites to find alternative headquarters and redeploy forces there urgently, while maintaining very minimal security at the main headquarters, not exceeding one or two guards per building, to avoid any human casualties in the event of them being targeted.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, directed that the alert level be raised in all military units, in anticipation of any emergency.
Early Wednesday, CENTCOM announced that US and Saudi fighter jets had carried out precision strikes on weapons and logistics supply sites in several areas of eastern Iraq, which it said belonged to Iranian-backed factions responsible for those attacks.
In contrast, the Popular Mobilization Forces announced on Wednesday that at least 20 of its members were killed and 32 others were wounded, in what it described as a “non-final” toll from the joint US-Saudi strikes that targeted its official headquarters in a number of Iraqi provinces.
