Turkish exporters: Recent agreements with Iraq will have a positive impact on markets

Turkish industrialists and exporters welcomed the agreements signed with Iraq on Saturday, stressing that they will provide new opportunities to boost trade and investment and support economic development in the region.
The head of the Southeastern Anatolia Exporters Association in Turkey, Mete Akcan, said in a statement that the agreements signed following the meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi on July 28 do not only affect the transport and logistics sector, but also extend to agriculture, customs, investment and energy.
Akcan added that these understandings will contribute to raising the level of trade and diplomatic relations between the two countries, and will also provide multiple opportunities for exporters and industrialists in the region, in addition to supporting regional development efforts.
He pointed out that the development road project represents one of the most prominent items of the agreements, due to its strategic importance in international trade.
He explained that the project, which extends from the Grand Faw Port on the Arabian Gulf, through the Turkish border and into Europe, would provide an alternative trade route on a global level.
He pointed out that the location of the southeastern Anatolia region on this route will enhance its logistical position, contribute to reducing access time to the Middle East and Gulf markets, lower transportation costs, and increase the competitiveness of local industries.
He stressed that the agreements will have a positive impact on production and export operations in the region, noting that Iraq remains one of the most important export markets for Turkish companies.
He added that the agreements will support key sectors, including textiles, food industries, carpets, chemicals, cement, and iron and steel.
He expressed confidence that this comprehensive cooperation would strengthen economic relations between the two countries and bring long-term gains to the region’s economy.
On Tuesday, Turkish President Erdogan received Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in an official ceremony at the Presidential Complex in Ankara.
The talks between the two leaders culminated in the signing of 5 agreements covering educational and academic cooperation, police cooperation, youth and sports, and memoranda of understanding on cooperation in the field of industrial property, transportation and infrastructure.
