MP Habib al-Halawi commented today, Thursday, on Prime Minister al-Zaidi’s anti-corruption campaign, questioning the fate of the stolen and looted funds from 2003 until his rise to power. He pointed out that the success of anti-corruption efforts requires dealing with all those involved without exception, regardless of their political affiliations or positions, stressing the necessity of applying the law to everyone.
Al-Halawi told the Information Agency, “The fight against corruption must extend to all those involved, whatever their names or political affiliations, because selective application of the law undermines reform efforts and weakens citizens’ trust in state institutions.”
He added, “The government is obligated to the Iraqi people and their representatives in Parliament to expedite the resolution of all corruption cases accumulated since 2003, and not to leave any case without investigation or accountability.”
He pointed out that “recovering public funds and holding those responsible for their misappropriation accountable are essential steps in establishing the principles of integrity and enhancing the prestige of the state, in line with the aspirations of Iraqis to build corruption-free institutions.”
He addressed Al-Halawi, saying, “What we need today is a series of decisive actions, not just one.”
