On Tuesday, the Sulaimaniyah Farmers Syndicate called for the marketing of surplus agricultural crops to all of Iraq, stressing that local production now covers the needs of the Kurdistan Region and the central and southern governorates of Iraq, with surplus quantities that can be exported abroad.
The head of the Sulaimaniyah Alwa Syndicate, Sarwar Ali, told Shafaq News Agency that many of the agricultural crops produced in the Kurdistan Region are no longer limited to meeting the needs of the region’s residents, but have also begun to cover the needs of the central and southern governorates of Iraq, in addition to having a surplus that can be marketed outside the country.
He explained that there is a significant surplus in the production of a number of agricultural crops, most notably cucumbers, tomatoes, cantaloupes, watermelons and eggplants, in addition to other agricultural crops and products.
Ali called on the Ministries of Agriculture and Trade to adopt the issue of exporting surplus agricultural products outside of Iraq, noting that the union had been demanding this measure for some time, but had not yet received any response from the concerned authorities.
