Zuhair al-Jalabi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, warned on Sunday of an American plan to remove top-tier leaders from the political process and replace them with younger figures. He asserted that this approach will not succeed in Iraq and could negatively impact the management of state institutions.
In a statement to Al-Maalomah News Agency, al-Jalabi said, “The American administration is adopting a policy based on promoting young leaders who align with its political interests, while simultaneously working to sideline traditional leaders who dominate the political scene.”
He added, “The American praise for Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, describing him as representing a young mindset, reflects an American tendency to implement this theory in Iraq.”
He emphasized that “Iraq is going through a sensitive phase that requires leaders with experience and the ability to manage crises, not relying solely on youth.” He pointed out that “a lack of political experience could affect the management of the complex issues facing the country.”
Al-Jalabi explained that “the United States is acting in accordance with its own interests and seeking to influence the course of the political process,” warning that “assigning the management of state institutions to inexperienced leaders could weaken the performance of some key state functions.”
