The financial advisor to the Prime Minister, Mazhar Muhammad Saleh, confirmed today, Saturday, that salaries are a strategic issue in the life of financial policy in Iraq, and cannot be overlooked at all, as they are considered the source of income for about 40 million Iraqis.
Saleh told Al-Maalomah that “the issue of salaries, wages and pensions is a red line, as it directly affects the lives of 10 million Iraqis and indirectly affects 40 million Iraqis.”
He pointed out that “securing salary funds is done in two ways, the first being through what is available from Iraqi oil exports through outlets other than the Strait of Hormuz, which are few and represent about 20% or less of the total Iraqi oil exports through the southern seaports.”
He added that “the second method is borrowing,” noting that “borrowing at the moment is internal, and it could be external if the borrowing law proposed by the Ministry of Finance is voted on.”
Saleh emphasized that “the continuation of the American war on the Islamic Republic and the accompanying tensions, which led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, are not in the interest of any country,” stressing “the necessity for the political economy of peace to take its course in shaping the economies of nations, far removed from the effects and repercussions of wars.”
