Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi revealed on Wednesday that there is a move to establish a joint Iraqi-German fund to finance Iraqi industry development projects by the German side.
The Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that Al-Zaidi held telephone talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, which addressed bilateral relations and ways to develop them in various fields and sectors, especially economic, trade and investment, in addition to cooperation on the migration issue.
According to the statement, Al-Zaydi pointed to “Iraq’s desire to expand its economic balance of payments and for German companies to enter for investment.”
The Prime Minister affirmed that the government is committed to combating corruption in all its forms and making Iraq an open and promising investment environment to diversify the sources of the economy, noting that Germany is an important economic partner and continues to support Iraq.
For his part, the German Chancellor expressed his country’s desire to strengthen cooperation with Iraq in various fields, and extended an official invitation to the Prime Minister to visit Germany.
He affirmed his country’s support for the Iraqi government’s efforts to achieve economic and financial reforms, and expressed the readiness of German companies to invest in Iraq.
