MP Mahmoud al-Shammari called on Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi on Tuesday to launch a new campaign targeting high-ranking corrupt officials, stressing the need to continue pursuing corruption cases without exception.
Al-Shammari told the Information Agency, “The current stage requires taking more decisive measures to hold those involved in corruption cases accountable, especially the bigwigs who caused the squandering of public funds.”
He added, “The government’s efforts in combating corruption have achieved important results, but the Iraqi public is looking forward to new steps targeting the figures involved in major cases and recovering public funds.”
He pointed out that “the continuation of the anti-corruption campaign would enhance citizens’ trust in state institutions and confirm the government’s seriousness in applying the law to everyone without exception.”
