Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi announced on Thursday that his government is working to establish the Iraqi-Turkish Fund, with the aim of financing investment and development projects in Iraq, which will contribute to accelerating the implementation of strategic projects and strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries.
This came during his meeting with the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar, and his accompanying delegation in Baghdad, according to a statement issued by Al-Zaidi’s media office.
The statement quoted Al-Zaydi as saying that Iraqi-Turkish relations are based on historical and geographical ties and long-standing common interests, noting that the two countries have broad opportunities to develop cooperation in various fields.
The Prime Minister also called on Turkish companies to expand their investments in the agricultural sector, stressing that Iraq has promising opportunities in this field, and that the government is proceeding with the implementation of livestock development programs, agricultural production development, and strengthening integration in production chains, as well as creating the appropriate environment and providing all the necessary facilities to advance the agricultural sector and attract quality investments to it.
For his part, the Turkish minister stressed that his country attaches great importance to its relations with Iraq, based on the pivotal position it enjoys at the regional level.
Bayraktar pointed to the attention that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pays to the development road project, given its economic and strategic value to the region, stressing Turkey’s readiness to enter into broad strategic partnerships with Iraq in various sectors, particularly in the fields of oil, gas, electricity, and regional interconnection, in order to enhance common interests and support development paths in both countries.
