Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi affirmed on Thursday that there is no selectivity in dealing with corruption cases, noting that those involved in corruption have no option but to return the looted funds because they are the money of the Iraqi people. Al-Zaidi stated in his interview with Al-Arabiya channel, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Media Office, “We have not practiced any selectivity in dealing with corruption cases, as it is a criminal issue that has no relation to sectarianism, nationalism or other affiliations.”
He added, “The pursuit of those accused of corruption is ongoing, and it is natural that there will be reactions to our steps in this file from those affected and concerned who have expressed resentment towards these legal procedures,” indicating that “there are no red lines in our efforts to protect public funds, and no exceptions for those involved in corruption.”
He stressed that “those involved in corruption have no option but to return the looted funds because they are the money of the Iraqi people,” noting that “cooperation between the government and the judiciary is at a high level, and our goal is one: to recover our people’s money and preserve their rights.”
Regarding the monopoly of weapons, he affirmed, “We have entered into dialogue with the factions, and their work will later move to the political and social field,” noting that “after the deadline expires, weapons will be completely monopolized by official state institutions and its competent armed and security forces.”
Regarding dollar shipments, he stated that “the delay in dollar shipments is related to the obstacles resulting from the situation in the region and air traffic,” explaining that “with the stabilization of the situation, cash payments have returned to proceeding according to the pre-established schedule.” He continued, “We will announce political cooperation and an economic partnership between Iraq and the United States,” emphasizing “the constant endeavor to create a state of rapprochement between the United States and Iran.”
Regarding relations with Saudi Arabia, he indicated that “we seek an economic partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as it represents a depth for us, just as Iraq represents a depth for it,” stressing that “Iraq is one of the founding countries of the Organization of (OPEC), and will not leave it, but we seek a fair and equitable share in production.”
Regarding the outstanding issues with the region, Al-Zaydi explained, “We will be able to resolve the outstanding issues with the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, because we do not believe in postponing problems, but rather in resolving them.”
