Italy awards Nechirvan Barzani its “highest honor”

The Italian government awarded the country’s highest honor to Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Wednesday, in recognition of his efforts to bring stability to the region.
A correspondent for Shafaq News Agency said that the Italian Ambassador General to Iraq, and representative of the Italian President, Nicolo Fontana, awarded the “Order of the Star of Italy” to the President of the Kurdistan Region during an official ceremony in Erbil.
In turn, Barzani, in a speech on the sidelines of the ceremony, expressed his gratitude to the government and people of Italy for their continued support for the Kurdistan Region, especially in the process of reorganizing and reforming the Peshmerga forces.
The region’s president stressed that they highly value the military assistance and training provided by Italy to the region’s security forces, which has played an important role in strengthening the Peshmerga’s capabilities.
In addition to the military aspect, Nechirvan Barzani highlighted Italy’s prominent role in the civilian and cultural spheres, noting that the country has been a key partner in protecting the heritage and culture of the Kurdistan Region. This assistance is part of Italy’s strategy to preserve the region’s identity and history, while simultaneously contributing to security and stability.
