Jassim Mohammed Jaafar, a leader in the State of Law Coalition, revealed on Monday that some political entities are looking to have the position of Prime Minister allocated to them, and are working to change the features of the political map by using external parties to achieve this goal.
Jaafar told Al-Maalomah that “there are political parties moving to redraw the political landscape in a way that serves their interests,” noting that “these efforts are being carried out through coordination and dealings with external parties, with the aim of changing the existing political equation and reaching the premiership.”
He added that “the disagreements within the coordination framework have not ended yet,” noting that “their roots go back to the stage of forming the government of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Zaidi, when a difference emerged between the leaders of the framework regarding the prime minister candidate.”
Jaafar pointed out that “disagreements still exist, but they require calming the atmosphere and creating conditions for a return to joint work,” stressing that “the coordination framework currently represents the only political reference for the largest component, and any crack in it may open the door to new alliances, such as the tripartite or quadripartite alliance, which may lead to the position of Prime Minister leaving the hands of the component.”
In a comment on a post by the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, he noted that “al-Maliki feels that there are attempts targeting the coordination framework and working to redraw the political map in the future, leading to the transfer of the premiership to another component,” pointing out that “there are international and regional parties seeking to achieve this direction.”
Jaafar explained that “Maliki’s recent stances were intended to send a message to the forces within the Coordination Framework, urging them to return to joint action, continue supporting the current government formed by al-Zidi, and confront any attempts to undermine the unity of the largest bloc or alter the existing political equation.”
