Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani congratulated US President Donald Trump and the American people on Saturday on the 250th anniversary of the declaration of independence, stressing that Iraq’s stability is based on adherence to the constitution and the protection of the region’s rights.
Barzani said in a post on the “X” platform, which was followed by Shafaq News Agency, that: “The eternal American lesson is that freedom requires more than just power; it needs a constitution, institutions, a federal balance, and the consent of free peoples.”
The region’s president continued: “While both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq look forward to a stronger partnership with the United States, we believe that the same principle remains fundamental to Iraq’s future,” stressing that “stability must be based on constitutional and federal commitments, and the full protection of the Kurdistan Region’s rights and legal status within the Iraqi constitution.”
Barzani concluded his post by saying: “We remain grateful for America’s friendship and leadership, and its continued support for the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.”
