The Ministry of Transport is moving towards putting forward the remaining dock works in the Grand Faw Port project to major international companies specializing in the field of maritime infrastructure.
A source in the ministry’s media office said that the government will, in the coming period, send official invitations to leading international companies in the field of marine berth construction and port infrastructure development to participate in implementing the remaining phases of the Grand Faw Port berth works, ensuring their completion according to the latest internationally approved technical and engineering standards.
He explained that the past months have witnessed remarkable progress in the work of the Grand Faw Port, represented by the completion of the first five berths project, which is one of its most important basic facilities, while the second half of this year will witness the completion of the remaining berths, which will enhance the port’s readiness to receive various types of giant commercial ships.
The source stated that the next phase will include completing the remaining docks of the port, in addition to completing the logistics and service facilities associated with it, in preparation for its full operation and linking it to the Development Road project, which aims to transform Iraq into a regional center for transport and trade between Asia and Europe.
He stressed that the Grand Faw Port will be operational after the completion of all its phases, and is expected to become the largest of its kind in the Middle East region, with a capacity of up to tens of millions of tons of goods annually, which will boost non-oil revenues, provide thousands of job opportunities and support Iraq’s position as a global trade corridor.
