MP Karim Aliwi, a member of the Badr parliamentary bloc, praised on Thursday the recent government measures and steps represented by opening an investigation into major corruption cases, stressing that the House of Representatives will witness a great tightening of its oversight role during the next stage to support this comprehensive reform movement.
Aliwi stated in an interview with Al-Maalomah News Agency that “the recent government actions represent the true spark that the Iraqi people have long awaited to begin the battle to completely eradicate corruption, after it took a dangerous turn and infiltrated all levels and institutions of the state.” He added that “the pillars and paths of the upcoming oversight phase are to work with absolute seriousness to monitor state institutions and expose corruption within them,” noting that “there are ready files under the dome of Parliament, during the current and previous sessions, an arsenal of corruption files supported by documents, which will be used to support the judiciary and executive bodies.” He called on “all political forces” to support the efforts of the government and Parliament in pursuing the big fish and to declare their unequivocal disavowal of every corrupt individual who has manipulated and squandered the money of the Iraqi people.
