Member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Ahmed Shaheed, confirmed on Wednesday that the Asset Recovery Law is among the committee’s top priorities during the upcoming legislative session, in line with the government’s efforts to support the anti-corruption campaign. He explained that its enactment will contribute to strengthening the legislative framework for protecting and recovering public funds.
Shaheed told the Information Agency, “The Asset Recovery Law is one of the most important pieces of legislation that the Parliamentary Integrity Committee will work to advance during the upcoming legislative session, given its significant importance in supporting the state’s efforts to combat corruption and protect public funds.”
He added, “The law is at the forefront of the Integrity Committee’s priorities, along with a number of other important pieces of legislation related to strengthening integrity and oversight, as it represents a fundamental pillar in supporting the state’s efforts to combat corruption and protect public funds.”
He clarified that “proceeding with the enactment of a sound and effective law for asset recovery is consistent with the national anti-corruption campaign,” noting that “the current stage requires a comprehensive legal framework that strengthens the procedures for prosecuting corrupt individuals, ensures their accountability, and recovers public funds in accordance with the law.”
He noted that “the enactment of this law will represent a crucial legislative pillar for implementing legal proceedings against those involved in corruption cases, in line with the government program aimed at establishing the principles of integrity and transparency, recovering public funds, and holding accountable all those who misappropriate them.”
