Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi affirmed on Wednesday that Iraq is entering a new phase based on building a modern state with full sovereignty, a strong economy, and the rule of law, while strengthening relations with its Arab, regional, and international surroundings.
This came during his reception of the Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Jassim Mohammed Al-Badawi, and his accompanying delegation, who conveyed a congratulatory message from the leaders of the Arab Gulf States on the occasion of the government gaining the confidence of the House of Representatives, according to an Iraqi government statement received by Shafaq News Agency.
The two sides discussed relations between Iraq and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and ways to enhance cooperation in various fields in order to serve common interests and support development and prosperity.
Al-Zaydi stressed his government’s keenness to strengthen relations with the Gulf states, which represent the Arab depth of Iraq, stressing that the next stage will be based on building a modern state with full sovereignty and a solid economy, in addition to respecting and strengthening relations with the Arab, regional and international environment.
For his part, Al-Badawi praised the reforms initiated by the Iraqi government in the areas of strengthening the economy, combating corruption, restricting weapons to the state, and building strong relations with the Gulf states, stressing the Council’s readiness to expand the partnership with Iraq in various fields.
