A responsible source in Anbar province revealed on Sunday that Mohammed al-Halbousi, head of the Progress Alliance, has opened an auction for senior positions in the new government following the vote to appoint Ali al-Zaidi as Prime Minister.
The source told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “the Progress Alliance offices in the Sunni-majority provinces have become a marketplace for selling senior positions in Ali al-Zaidi’s government by attracting wealthy individuals to purchase sovereign posts, in coordination with a specialized network managing the sale of these positions.”
The source added that “al-Halbousi has opened this market for senior government positions, with prices for ministerial posts in al-Zaidi’s government reaching more than 200 billion dinars,” indicating that “al-Halbousi paid more than 300 billion dinars to secure the position of Speaker of Parliament.” The source
explained that “everyone assuming their new post pledges allegiance to al-Halbousi and the Progress Alliance, despite having paid the required sum.”
