A security source in Anbar province reported on Saturday that about 150 trucks loaded with soldiers and military equipment moved from Ain al-Assad base in western Anbar towards the Syrian Tanf base and Harir base in Erbil, northern Iraq, on a mission with unknown objectives.

The source told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “Ain al-Assad base in the Al-Baghdadi district of Hit, west of Anbar, witnessed the movement of a large convoy consisting of 150 trucks loaded with soldiers, equipment and military vehicles to the Syrian Al-Tanf base and Harir base in Erbil Governorate, as part of an unclear American plan aimed at evacuating Ain al-Assad base for the second time during the current period.”

He added that “American forces imposed unprecedented security measures when the convoy moved on the international highway towards the Al-Walid crossing west of Anbar to reach the designated location, while other convoys took the Haditha road west of Anbar towards the northern provinces.”

He stated that “security forces stationed inside the Ain al-Asad base observed suspicious American movements over the past two days,” confirming that “the movement of American convoys from Ain al-Asad coincided with heavy air activity by coalition warplanes to secure the convoys’ passage to their designated locations.”
