The mayor of Rutba district, Imad al-Rishawi, called on Tuesday for the Trebil border crossing to be opened 24 hours a day, stressing that the crossing is witnessing an increasing momentum in trade exchange, with about 1,400 trucks passing through daily.
Al-Rishawi told Shafaq News Agency that “the Trebil border crossing has recently witnessed active import and export activity, with hundreds of trucks loaded with various goods entering and leaving,” indicating that “the border crossing administration and the concerned authorities are working to regulate the movement and facilitate procedures despite the large volume.”
He added that “the outer yards of the port are capable of accommodating the increasing numbers of trucks, but the current stage requires reducing bureaucracy and speeding up administrative procedures to alleviate waiting times and complete transactions faster.”
Al-Rishawi pointed out that “continued coordination with the Jordanian side has become necessary in order to agree to operate the crossing 24 hours a day, due to its direct impact on accelerating trade, reducing bottlenecks, and supporting economic activity between Iraq and Jordan.”
The Trebil border crossing is the only land crossing that connects Iraq and Jordan. It is located in the far west of Anbar Governorate within the Rutba district, and is considered a vital economic artery for trade and passenger traffic between the two countries.
