The Central Bank of Iraq denied on Wednesday printing quantities of new Iraqi currency with zeros removed.
In a statement received by Al-Maalomah News Agency, the bank said, “The Central Bank of Iraq has been following the news and statements circulating in some media outlets regarding the bank printing quantities of new Iraqi currency with zeros removed, in preparation for its circulation.” The statement emphasized, “In this regard, we confirm that these reports are not based on any official source, and we deny that the bank has printed new Iraqi currency with zeros removed.”
The bank added, “Any future project related to restructuring currency denominations or removing zeros—should an official decision be made in this regard—will be subject to multiple legal, regulatory, and technical stages. These stages will be announced, if approved, through the bank’s official channels and various media outlets, along with specifying an appropriate transition period that allows citizens, banks, and institutions to exchange the currency in a safe and organized manner, ensuring the full preservation of everyone’s financial rights and obligations.”
The Central Bank of Iraq added, “We urge citizens and media outlets to rely exclusively on our official statements and channels for information related to monetary policy, and to refrain from relying on unverified news, figures, or information, as its dissemination may cause confusion or harm to citizens’ financial interests.”
