Zelensky is trapped.. Musk accuses him of murder and Trump gives Russia the upper hand

Shafaq News/ American billionaire Elon Musk, a senior advisor to President Donald Trump, accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of killing American journalist Gonzalo Lira, at a time when Trump believes that the Russians are in a position to negotiate an end to the war with Ukraine.
“Zelensky killed an American journalist!” Musk said in a post on his X account, after Trump described Zelensky as an “unelected dictator” and warned him that he “better act fast or he will have no country left.”
Gonzalo Lira, a Chilean-American commentator known for his critical views of the Ukrainian government, died on January 11, 2024, in a hospital in Kharkiv, Ukraine, after being detained for eight months on charges of “justifying Russian military actions in Ukraine.”
Musk’s comments came after an online account claimed that Lyra was killed in Ukraine last year for criticizing Zelensky.
For his part, US President Donald Trump considered that Russia is “in a position of strength” in the negotiations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
“I think the Russians want the war to end,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. “But I think they’re in a position of strength to some extent because they’ve taken over a lot of territory, so they’re in a position of strength.”
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that Kyiv “should not have started” the war, hours after Zelensky said the US president was living in a “Russian disinformation bubble.”
Trump said that Europe failed to achieve peace in Ukraine, while the United States succeeded in negotiating an end to the war.
Earlier, Trump warned his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky that he “better move quickly” to negotiate an end to Russia’s war against his country, or he risked not having a country to govern.
This comes amid escalating tensions between Trump and Zelensky, and growing differences between Washington and most European countries over Trump’s approach to resolving the continent’s biggest conflict since World War II.
For his part, Zelensky said that Trump fell into the trap of Russian propaganda, but US Vice President J.D. Vance was quick to warn him of the dangers of publicly criticizing the new president.
Trump is seeking to end the fighting on terms that Kiev sees as very favorable to Moscow, and used a lengthy post on his Truth Social platform to attack Zelensky, calling him an “unelected dictator.”
“Imagine, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelensky, convinced the United States to spend $350 billion to fight a war that could not be won, should never have started, but which he will never be able to settle without the United States and Trump,” Trump wrote in his post.
