A citizen in Kirkuk Governorate was able to find a large sum of money, exceeding 25 million Iraqi dinars, hidden inside a bag of rice. He later returned it to its owner via the Rahim Awa Police Station.
A security source at the center told Shafaq News Agency that Abdul Qader Jawdat, a citizen who works in the rice and flour trade from homes, found the sum of money while unpacking bags he had purchased from a house in the Quriya neighborhood. He discovered 22 million and 500 thousand Iraqi dinars, in addition to 2,200 US dollars, inside one of the bags.
According to the current local market rate of 140,000 dinars per $100, the Iraqi dinar is equivalent to approximately $16,070, bringing the total value of the rice in a bag to approximately $18,270.
The source added that the citizen immediately contacted the director of Rahim Awa Police Station, Colonel Farhad Mahmoud, who coordinated with the relevant authorities to track down the owner of the money.
After verifying the details, it was found that the money had been missing without the homeowners’ knowledge, and it was fully refunded.
The source emphasized that this incident reflects the integrity and honesty of the citizen, who did not hesitate to return the money immediately upon discovering it, despite its significant value.
