{International: Al Furat News} The World Bank has approved an additional $ 400 million in funding for Iraq to help rebuild services in areas that have been re-established by Dahesh after a three-year military campaign.
The bank said in a statement Tuesday that it would fund studies on how the private sector could participate in the reconstruction of Mosul airport, the restoration of public transport stations and parts of the railway network.
“This aid package represents additional funding for Iraq’s emergency operation for the $ 350 million development project approved by the Bank earlier in July 2015 and already underway in seven cities in Diyala and Salahaddin provinces,” the bank said.
“The new funding will focus on reconstruction in five sectors, including water, sanitation, electricity, health, transport and municipal services,” he said.
The funding will also help restore and preserve cultural heritage sites in the ancient city of Mosul, which has been severely damaged by the fighting.
Iraqi government forces, backed by the US-led international coalition, regained control of Mosul in May after nearly nine months of fighting.
Iraqi government officials estimated the reconstruction of Mosul would take at least five years and require billions of dollars
