With losses exceeding 60 million - a representative said - Iraq will continue to provide discounted oil to JordanAl-Maalouma/Exclusive..
MP Haider Al-Mutairi confirmed on Saturday that Iraq provides Jordan with subsidized crude oil shipments worth about $60 million annually.
Al-Mutairi told Al-Maalouma that “Iraq sells crude oil at subsidized prices of up to $16 per barrel,” noting that “the value of what is being marketed daily reaches 10,000 barrels.”
He added, “If a numerical calculation is made of the discounted value of the oil sales to Jordan, it amounts to about $60 million annually, in addition to customs exemptions for dozens of materials and goods, which also cost tens of billions of dinars.”
He pointed out that “it is surprising that despite this generous financial support from Baghdad, the King of Jordan did not attend the Baghdad summit,” wondering “about the reasons despite the great support that Iraq provides to Amman.”
It is noteworthy that the modest attendance of most Arab countries at the Arab Summit in Baghdad sparked internal discontent, accompanied by calls for reciprocal action against countries that reduced their representation at the summit.
