Saman Ali, a leader in the National Position Movement, revealed on Sunday that the oil smuggling network owned by Masoud Barzani’s party has replaced the tanker trucks designated for transporting oil derivatives with others for transporting goods in a camouflage operation away from the eyes of observers.
Ali said in a statement to / Al-Maalouma / agency, “The oil smuggling network owned by the Barzani family has used a new tactic that begins by transporting the product in tanker trucks designated for carrying oil derivatives. Then the second phase begins with the process of filling the smuggled oil into barrels and transporting it in Mercedes (Actros) trucks owned by the ruling parties to camouflage the fact that these trucks are loaded with commercial materials and goods designated for transporting goods from Iraq to Turkey.”
He added that “all stages of the smuggling operations are completely confidential and are supervised by the ruling authority and protected by the regional guards. All meetings of the smuggling networks take place in the governorates of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah and are completely confidential.” He indicated that “the process of filling the smuggled oil into barrels takes place in areas close to the border strip with Turkey and is subject to strict security measures that prevent access to it by any force outside the control of the region.”
He stressed that “Turkey has prior knowledge of the locations of the stages of smuggling Iraqi oil, but it turns a blind eye to these movements in the public eye due to the existence of joint coordination that allows the regional government to continue smuggling operations without the knowledge of the Baghdad government.”
