With a decisive decision.. Iraqi factions say no to Al-Sudani and the latter reminds them of their fateShafaq News/ Informed sources revealed, on Monday, that the Iraqi government has failed to oblige armed factions close to Iran to hand over their weapons and integrate into the official military establishment.

The sources told Shafaq News Agency, “The past period witnessed unannounced dialogues between government parties from the team of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and a number of leaders of armed factions in order to hand over those factions’ weapons and push them towards integration into the official Iraqi military institutions, and to leave any work outside the framework of the state.”

She added, “After a round of dialogues and discussions, the factions categorically informed Al-Sudani and his team of their complete refusal to surrender their weapons or integrate into any of the military institutions, and their emphasis on continuing the approach of (resistance) and their complete readiness to defend Iraq and the (axis) forces in the region.”

The sources indicated that “the government informed the factions that this decision will push both the United States of America and Israel to take steps against it during the next stage, whether economic or military, and this will plunge Iraq into unnecessary crises.”

Last month, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani confirmed that his government is working to integrate the factions within the legal and institutional frameworks, noting that the government is also determined to build a new Iraq based on its Arab cultural heritage.

Reuters had previously quoted the Iraqi Foreign Minister as saying that the government is trying to persuade armed factions in the country to lay down their weapons or join the army and official security forces.

Hussein pointed out, during an official visit to London, that two or three years ago it was impossible to discuss this issue in our society… but now it has become unacceptable for there to be armed groups operating outside the framework of the state.

Observers believe that integrating armed factions into the security establishment in Iraq will protect them from any targeting or military strikes by the United States or its allies.
