The Wisdom Movement, led by Ammar al-Hakim, revealed on Saturday the date on which the Coordination Framework will officially decide on the candidate for Prime Minister.
Hassan Fad’am, a leader in the movement, told Shafaq News Agency that “the committee for selecting the new prime minister within the coordination framework has begun its work and the criteria have been set with the other parties,” indicating that “there are names being considered, including the current Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, and other prominent names.”
Fadaam continued, saying: “We do not want to reveal all the names at the moment, and the framework is responsible for revealing those names during the next stage,” stressing that “most of the names that are being circulated are correct, and some of them have not been officially nominated yet.”
He added that “the coming days will reveal the names nominated publicly by the coordinating framework.”
In contrast, State of Law spokesman Aqeel al-Fatlawi said, “There are candidates who have submitted their names to the Supreme Committee formed by the Coordination Framework to choose the most suitable candidate for the position of Prime Minister.”
Al-Fatlawi told Shafaq News Agency that “the coordination framework is currently only discussing the selection of the Prime Minister, while the other ministerial positions will be discussed after the candidate of the largest bloc is appointed.”
He explained that “discussions within the coordinating framework blocs may be in the direction of assigning the ministry to a specific bloc or entity, but there is no official talk regarding the selection or naming of candidates for ministerial positions.”
Earlier today, the Shura Council of the Islamic Dawa Party decided to nominate the party’s Secretary-General, Nouri al-Maliki, for the position of Prime Minister in the next Iraqi government.
The Coordination Framework announced last Monday the formation of two committees. The first committee is concerned with forming the government and includes Ammar al-Hakim, Humam Hamoudi and Abdul-Sada al-Fariji, while the second committee is concerned with negotiating with the political parties and includes Nouri al-Maliki, Hadi al-Amiri, Faleh al-Fayyad and Mohsen al-Mandalawi.
According to sources who spoke to Shafaq News Agency, the committee for interviewing candidates for the next Iraqi government, which is part of the coordination framework, has received 5 CVs from candidates for the position.
The names are State of Law leader Nouri al-Maliki, caretaker Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, intelligence chief Hamid al-Shatri, former Minister of Youth and Sports Abdul Hussein Abtan, and head of the Accountability and Justice Commission Bassem al-Badri.
