Iraqi parliament member Firas Al-Muslimawi announced today, Saturday, who will be the speaker of parliament for the next year and a half.
Al-Maslamawi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The most prominent candidate who is accepted by most Sunni blocs and even Shiite blocs is Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani,” noting that “there is a great Kurdish consensus on Al-Mashhadani, which gives him a greater chance of winning the position.”
He added, “The Shiite-Kurdish-Sunni consensus on the personality of Mahmoud al-Mashhadani has not happened before for any speaker of the council,” noting that al-Mashhadani is one of the important political figures and has a long history in the House of Representatives.
It is noteworthy that the differences between the Sunni forces have been prolonged, which has greatly complicated the work of the House of Representatives and left the position vacant for a longer period.
