US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the US capital has the highest crime rate in the world, noting that the city’s residents live in fear of gangs and criminals.
Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social that the official crime figures are “much worse” than the reported statistics, with the actual crime rate likely being five to 10 times higher.
Trump criticized the D.C. administration for understating crime statistics, asserting that the capital had been “under siege by thugs and murderers” but was now “back under federal control where it belongs.”
“The White House is responsible, and our great military and police will liberate this city, clean it out, and make it safe, clean, livable, and beautiful again,” he added.
Trump noted that “the murder rate in Washington is higher than in places known for their violence, such as Mexico City, Bogota, Islamabad, and Addis Ababa, and is approximately ten times higher than Fallujah, Iraq.”
He emphasized that, “If Washington, D.C., were a state, it would have the highest murder rate of any state in America. Violent crime in Washington, D.C., has skyrocketed, and the murder rate has essentially doubled in just over a decade. But those are just the official statistics released by corrupt city officials. The real numbers are much worse.”
“In fact, a police chief was just suspended for allegedly manipulating violent crime statistics. Similarly, the Metropolitan Police Union says the true numbers are much higher. Because the Democratic administration in Washington, D.C., has largely stopped investigating most crimes, arresting criminals, and prosecuting them, the published statistics don’t even capture a fraction of the actual violence,” he continued.
Trump concluded by saying, “Citizens in Washington, D.C., live in fear of violence. With rampant vehicle thefts, youth gang violence, and declining school safety, many avoid walking the streets after dark and stores remain closed behind glass walls.”
