State of Law Coalition member Abdul Rahman al-Jazairi explained on Tuesday the reasons for US interference in the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) law, noting that the government will work to withdraw the law and make some amendments based on the call between Rubio and al-Sudani.
Al-Jazaery told Al-Maalouma, “The government will work to withdraw the law regulating the Popular Mobilization Forces in order to make some amendments to the law before proceeding to vote on it in the House of Representatives.”
He added, “The reshuffle process includes many important aspects related to the Popular Mobilization Forces, according to information from sources in the office of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.”
He explained that “the amendment to the Popular Mobilization Forces law came as a result of a phone call between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, as the US administration is disturbed by the comprehensive vote on the law without meeting its demands related to disarmament, the withdrawal of the Popular Mobilization Forces from certain areas, the severing of the Popular Mobilization Forces’ ties to Iran, and other US demands.”
