The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) confirmed that its participation in the next Iraqi government would be conditional and based on a clear work program.
According to Kurdish media, Hoshyar Zebari, a member of the party’s political bureau, said: “We will not sign a blank sheet of paper for anyone without conditions. Our participation will be based on rights and calculations and on the basis of the constitution.”
He added, “If the Kurds unite, they can play a decisive role in determining the form of government in Baghdad.”
He pointed out that “the United States has a clear message that the next government must be sovereign, and that sensitive ministries such as oil and finance should not fall into the hands of entities under sanctions from Washington.”
He pointed out that “the President of the Republic is the protector of the constitution and the position is the share of the Kurds, and if the person wants it, he has great powers,” noting that “the party has shown all flexibility to go to Baghdad in partnership with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.”
