We were - Influential political blocs are behind the obstruction of the Christian candidate for the Ministry of ImmigrationThe head of the Assyrian Democratic Movement, former MP Yonadam Kanna, accused influential political forces on Saturday of obstructing the selection of a candidate for the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, a post allocated to the Christian community. He pointed to external political interference, which he said seeks to impose its will on the community’s electoral entitlement.
Kanna told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “The interference of influential political forces in the agreement on the candidate for the Ministry of Migration and Displacement has been a major reason for deepening the division between the two political forces (Babylon) and the (Suyana Christian Bloc).”
He added, “This obstruction and interference comes despite the genuine and legitimate entitlement, as determined by the parliamentary elections, of the Suyana Bloc to occupy this ministerial position.”
Kanna called on all Christian political forces to “sit down at the negotiating table, away from external political influences and pressures, and urgently agree on a unified candidate who represents the community and guarantees its legitimate rights in the government cabinet.”
Last Thursday, the House of Representatives voted on the candidates to complete the cabinet, with the exception of the Ministry of Migration and Displacement portfolio, which is allocated to the Christian component, and the position of Deputy Prime Minister, for which the nominee, Fares al-Brefkani, has not yet been officially announced, according to available information.
