Water Resources begins construction of Al-Masad Dam to harvest water in Anbar

The Ministry of Water Resources announced, on Sunday, the commencement of the implementation of Al-Masad Dam as the first water harvesting dam.
The Ministry said in a statement received by Al-Maalouma Agency, that “work has begun and commenced on one of the water harvesting dams, Al-Masad Dam, after it was previously halted due to security conditions.”
He stressed that “Al-Masad Dam is one of the vital projects in the field of water harvesting dams with a storage capacity of 6.8 million m³, as it is hoped that it will contribute to securing drinking water, feeding groundwater, and improving the local environment in the region.”
He pointed out that “this project comes within the first package of water harvesting dams, the commencement of which will be announced successively, including three dams within the framework agreement with the Turkish side, namely (Al-Abyad 2 Dam) in Karbala Governorate, (Abu Takia Dam) in Nineveh Governorate, and (Al-Kharaz 2 Dam) in Muthanna Governorate, in addition to 14 dams, most of which are under design in the Ministry’s study and design centers.”
The statement continued, “The project will greatly serve the people of Rutba district, announcing its full readiness to provide all support to complete this work.”
It explained that “the work is being implemented by the Rafidain General Company for Dam Construction, as part of the Ministry of Water Resources’ plans to expand water harvesting dam projects, which are among the important measures to address the challenges of water scarcity.”
