ABC News, citing US officials, revealed that negotiations between the United States and Iran resumed on Saturday in Oman, amid firm US conditions and pressures related to the security of international navigation in the region.
The network quoted officials as saying that “the United States is demanding that Iran issue an official and public statement confirming that all routes through the Strait of Hormuz are fully open, and pledging to end the targeting of ships and maritime navigation.”
Officials indicated that “the US administration expects Saturday’s talks with the Iranian side to restore the Strait of Hormuz to operation and navigation in the same manner and context as it was before the outbreak of the war.”
In a strongly worded warning, US officials stressed that “if Iran does not announce today, Saturday, that the Strait of Hormuz is open as it was before the war, it will not be a happy day for them,” in a clear indication of the possibility of taking alternative options, namely launching severe military strikes, in the event that the talks fail.
