The Financial Times, citing sources familiar with the talks, reported on Tuesday that Washington had assured Kyiv it would not provide security guarantees unless it first agreed to a deal in which it relinquished territorial claims.
The newspaper stated that “the Trump administration made it clear to Ukraine that American security guarantees could only be provided if Kyiv agreed to the peace agreement first.”
She noted that “the discussion revolves around an agreement that is likely to include territorial concessions.”
Last Saturday in Abu Dhabi, the trilateral working negotiations on security issues concluded with the participation of representatives from Russia, the United States and Ukraine.
On the same day, the head of the Kyiv regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, reiterated his refusal to withdraw Ukrainian armed forces from the occupied territories in Donbas, saying that “Ukraine’s position on this has not changed.”
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated earlier that “Ukrainian forces must withdraw from Donbas, and this is a fundamental condition for the Russian side.”
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov had previously described the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbas as “an important element in the overall process”.
