Washington halts food supplies to its soldiers at Ain al-Asad base. Has the withdrawal begunAl-Maalouma/Anbar..
A security source in Anbar province reported on Saturday that US forces stationed at Ain al-Assad airbase have terminated a food supply contract with an Iraqi contractor, without revealing clear reasons, coinciding with the reduction of their military presence in Iraq.
The source told Al-Maalouma news agency, “US forces at Ain al-Assad base in the al-Baghdadi district, west of Anbar, have terminated their contract with an Iraqi contractor who was supplying them with large quantities of food, including meat, fish, and dairy, in addition to other consumer goods.”
He added, “The contract signed between the two sides was for five years until the end of 2029, but the US side decided to terminate it suddenly and without official explanations, which raised questions in security and local circles.”
The source indicated that “a number of American soldiers have been occasionally wandering through the markets of the al-Baghdadi district to buy their daily needs, in behavior that has been unusual for years,” noting that “supply missions were previously carried out by foreign security companies, before being transferred to local contractors who underwent security vetting in cooperation with Iraqi security agencies.”
This comes amid increasing reports of a recent reduction in the number of international coalition forces, including American forces, in Iraq.
