A security source in Anbar province reported on Thursday that violent explosions and rising smoke from inside the Ain al-Asad airbase in the al-Baghdadi area of Hit district sparked fear and panic among residents of the western areas, who believed the base had been subjected to a missile attack.
The source told Al-Maalouma that “the explosions were the result of military training conducted by US forces inside the base, with the aim of simulating scenarios for confronting drone and missile attacks that target the base from time to time.”
He added, “US forces used aircraft and live weapons in these exercises, causing loud explosions to be heard, coinciding with intense US aircraft flying at low altitudes.”
He pointed out that “the use of sound bombs during the training exercises contributed to increasing panic among civilians living in areas near the base.”
The source confirmed that “residents of the western areas near the base experienced moments of anxiety and panic, believing that the explosions were the result of an attack targeting the base, especially in light of the security tensions witnessed in the region.”
