Representative of the State of Law Coalition, Muhannad Al-Khazraji, described, on Tuesday, the recovery of the money in the theft of the century as an important step in the anti-corruption file, indicating that the government of former Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi was directly involved in the theft of the century.
Al-Khazraji said in a statement to Al-Maalouma, “The recovery of the amount of 182 billion dinars, part of the stolen tax secretariats, is considered a step in the right direction in order to hold the parties accused of stealing the century accountable, and that this crime, and through the follow-up of the supervisory authorities, revealed thefts involving influential people in Al-Kazemi’s government.” Some of its members have been corrupted.
He added, “Achieving justice by imprisoning and prosecuting all parties accused of theft must apply to everyone, regardless of the political parties behind the accused.”
Al-Khazraji added, “The Supreme Commission for Combating Corruption will go beyond the geographical borders of the country to recover wanted persons and smuggled funds outside Iraq in an effort to protect the capabilities of the people who have suffered greatly from the state of rampant corruption in state departments.”
He pointed out that “corruption mafias in Iraq are linked internationally, and some of them are protected by countries that claim to combat and money laundering, which complicates the tasks of the prime minister who pledged to combat corruption,” stressing that “the prime minister’s steps in dealing similarly with countries and agencies that harbor the corrupt will accelerate the end of corruption.” It establishes a new political and social system that contributes to the development of the standard of living for citizens
