US Treasury Secretary Scott Besent pledged on Friday to target Iranian funds worldwide.
Besent added in an interview with Fox News that there is a lot of Iranian money circulating and we will track it down.
The administration of US President Donald Trump believes that economic sanctions are more effective than military strikes in weakening the Iranian regime, according to a report by the Axios news website.
The Trump administration had imposed sanctions on more than 1,000 people, ships and aircraft as part of its revived maximum pressure campaign, targeting Iran’s oil trade, parallel banking system and arms-buying and shipping networks.
On July 24, the United States announced further sanctions against nine companies and four individuals linked to sanctioned Iranian billionaire Babak Zanjani for their role in circumventing US sanctions.
The Iranian currency has plummeted to record lows in recent weeks amid rising demand for foreign currency as military tensions escalate again and pressures worsen on the Iranian economy, which is already suffering from inflation exceeding 60% and deflation.
