US Treasury Secretary: We do not rule out deploying troops to Kharg Island

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bisent said on Sunday that “all options are on the table,” including sending US forces to secure Iran’s Kharg Island, stressing that “escalation may be necessary to de-escalate” the war with Iran.
In an interview with NBC, Bessent added that “the American people understand that prices will rise temporarily in exchange for removing an Iranian regime that possesses a nuclear weapon,” noting that President Donald Trump “can end the war at any time he wants, but he has been clear about the objectives.”
He explained that these goals include “destroying the Iranian air force, navy, and missile capabilities,” stressing that President Trump “will take any necessary steps to achieve those goals.”
Trump had warned, in a post on the Truth Social platform, saying: “If Iran does not fully open the Strait of Hormuz, without threat, within 48 hours from this moment, the United States of America will strike and destroy their various power stations, starting with the largest first!”
Bisent pointed out that talk of the war waning does not contradict the continuation of strikes, saying that “the two are not contradictory,” referring to the president’s inconsistent positions on the course of the war.
