US State Department - Iraq has achieved remarkable successes in the field of combating corruptionToday, Saturday, the Federal Integrity Commission and the US State Department discussed extending cooperation between the two countries in the field of combating corruption, while the US State Department praised the Iraqi government’s achievements in combating corruption.

The Commission stated, in a statement received by NRT Arabic, a copy of it, that “the Chairman of the Commission, Judge Haider Hanoun, and the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran Affairs, Victoria Taylor, discussed extending the bonds of cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of combating corruption and recovering its revenues.”

Judge Hanoun stressed, during the meeting that took place at the headquarters of the US State Department, “Iraq’s need for assistance from countries around the world in extraditing convicts and recovering smuggled proceeds,” noting that “concluding bilateral cooperation memorandums is sufficient to remove obstacles that may hinder the process of extraditing defendants and recovering smuggled funds.”

He noted that “the Republic of Iraq has achieved remarkable successes in the field of combating corruption, whether in the deterrent investigative aspect and increasing the pace of seizure operations or in the preventive field, one of the fruits of which was the campaign (Where did you get this), which did not exclude even senior officials.”

The head of the Commission reiterated, “the Republic of Iraq’s commitment to the United Nations Convention against Corruption and full compliance with its decisions, whether at the level of legislation supporting regulatory bodies or the issuance of strict judicial rulings against the corrupt,” noting that “diplomatic efforts are underway in full swing in order to bring viewpoints closer together and conclude agreements.” Cooperation and understanding with countries, especially the United States of America, so our presence today is to bring space together and shorten time.”

For her part, Victoria Taylor affirmed, “Her country’s government will continue to support the Iraqi government, and strengthen cooperation and partnership in all fields,” praising “Iraq’s recent steps in combating corruption, expressing its readiness to provide assistance to the regulatory agencies, in order to facilitate their mission to undermine and eradicate corruption.”
