A report by the American magazine The National Interest admitted, on Sunday, that the new American Abrams tanks, the X-model, are a waste of time, like aircraft carriers.

The report, translated by Al-Maalouma Agency, stated that “the new Abrams X tanks, designed for the US Army and to confront the challenges of modern warfare, have faced many criticisms, especially since previous versions of the Abrams tanks failed in Iraq and Ukraine.”

“Although the modern tank is equipped with a 1,500-horsepower turbocharged engine and can reach speeds of 45 kilometers per hour, making it one of the fastest tanks in the world, and includes advanced technology such as a digital command and control system and a laser warning receiver to improve battlefield awareness and survivability, there are worrying questions about its relevance in modern conflicts dominated by asymmetric warfare and whether it is designed for past wars rather than future wars,” he added.

The report explained that “Abrams main battle tanks have been subject to criticism in recent years, especially the more advanced versions of the weapons systems,” indicating that “the main battle tanks were useless with the start of resistance operations. However, the Americans are moving forward with another iteration of the Abrams tank.”

“Unfortunately, the conflict in Europe that the Abrams were designed to fight seems to have once again been resolved on the battlefields of Ukraine,” the report noted. “As a result, the Americans have promised Kyiv 31 older M1 Abrams tanks, but Ukraine has resisted deploying these assets, because they are too old and too heavy for Ukraine’s soft ground. They were certainly designed for yesterday’s wars between armies and were never designed for modern warfare that does not rely on technological parity and urban insurgency operations, as they would be easy prey for armed groups.”
